1932-1942 Murano’s glass and the Biennale

13.04-23.11.2025

The journey of “Le Stanze del Vetro” continues, dedicated to the glass art of Murano, which had its own exhibition space at the Venice Biennale from 1932 until the 1942 edition, before the interruption due to the Second World War.

The exhibition at Le Stanze del Vetro on the island of San Giorgio presents a selection of works characterized by new technical solutions – use of thick opaque glass, mosaics, use of gold and silver leaf – and stylistic ones, such as new nuances and stylized animal and floral subjects.

The numerous Murano furnaces present (Venini, Barovier, Seguso, Salviati, Moretti to name just a few) take us back to a period rich in inventiveness, creativity and technical quality to be preserved and renewed in order to continue to appreciate this Venetian artistic excellence.
